Centre of International Relations

  • Research Expertise:

    international relations, international economics and international business, politics of international law, diplomacy and human rights, international organisations, and European integration.

  • Research Projects:

    We conduct research at a national and international level. Our research findings are used for strategy and policy design by various organisations as well as included in curricula of several educational institutions.

  • Conferences and Workshops:

    We organise conferences, workshops, and seminars with word-class lecturers from both academia and the business sector. Our researchers are moreover visiting lecturers at various events in Slovenia and abroad.

  • Collections and Journals:

    The Centre issues two collections: CIR Analyses and Acta Diplomatica; as well as the Journal of International Relations and Development (JIRD) – a double-blind peer-reviewed quarterly, published in cooperation with Palgrave and an official journal of CEEISA.

New Publication: A Paper on Planning for Renewable Energy without Conflict (Authors: Jerneja Penca, Danijel Crnčec and Marko Lovec)

The study Planning for renewable energy without conflict: the potential of using sensitivity mapping as a decision-support tool, authored by Jerneja Penca (Science and Research Centre Koper), Danijel Crnčec and Marko Lovec (both CIR at FDV UL) highlights sensitivity mapping as a tool to integrate diverse concerns into renewable energy planning. The paper is published in the Journal of Environmental Policy & Planning in open access.

CIR Members Presented their Research at the ISA 2025 Annual Conference

CIR members Ana Bojinović Fenko, Ajda Hedžet, Melika Mahmutović, and Faris Kočan attended the International Studies Association (ISA) 2025 Annual Conference in Chicago, USA, between 2 and 5 March 2025, where they presented their current work. The conference theme was 'Reconnecting International Studies'.

Stefano Guzzini Honoured with the Distinguished Scholar Award by the International Studies Association

Prof. dr. Stefano Guzzini, an associate member of the Centre of International Relations and and a regular lecturer in the Master's program in International Relations at FDV UL was honoured with the Distinguished Scholar Award, presented by the ISA Global International Relations Section at the March 2025 ISA conference in Chicago, USA. Congratulations.

Centre of International Relations (CIR) conducts interdisciplinary research in the fields of international relations, international economics and international business, politics of international law, diplomacy and human rights, international organisations, and European integration. Members of the Centre are top-notch researchers, cooperating with numerous international scientific networks, such as TEPSA, EADI, WISC, EIBA, RESER, CEEISA, EISA, ISA, ECSA, IPSA, ECPR, ILA, and SGIR. CIR researchers are active in several national, European, and international projects – publishing and widely disseminating their research results both in Slovenia and abroad. The Centre also issues several publications: the CIR Analyses and the Acta Diplomatica collections, as well as the Journal of International Relations and Development (an official journal of the Central and East European International Studies Association – CEEISA), which is published in cooperation with Palgrave.
